Introduction
The FollowThePromises Initiative seeks to hold 6 Gubernatorial level candidates across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria accountable using our #FollowThePromises sector performance measurement web and app platform on a pilot scheme which will be spread across the rest of Nigeria to increase citizen’s participation in governance thereby serving as a mechanism for Nigerian citizens both at home and in diaspora to monitor government activities across Nigeria and Africa at large.
Focus
This initiative will focus on the public officer’s performance with regards to their agenda in selected key sectors such as Digital Economy, Energy, Healthcare, Security, Education, Infrastructure & Manufacturing, Youth Development & Jobs Creation, and Women, and Girls Inclusion.
The FollowThePromises platform will use a percentage increment & decrement model as well as indicators driven by data gathered from target states. It will serve as a platform for elected governors to be reminded ahead of deadlines and advocate for unfulfilled promises to be kept.
Objectives
- To give citizens and youths the tools and knowledge needed to FollowThePromises made by public officeholders during the electioneering campaign as a way to hold them accountable for their implementation
- To increase citizens’ participation in the governance process
- To ensure government performance is measured in real time leveraging the use of technology and LGA PromiseFollowers who will serve as first contents generators based on experiences from their LGAs
- To empower people to demand for better representation and service delivery from the government using the promises made to measure performances in the life cycle of the administration
